Vendor LOVE {Mya Bruce Designs}...

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE Mya Bruce Designs. I first spotted her work through Laura Winslow of Laura Winslow Photography. I wanted to buy a special piece but took some time to think about what I really wanted. I contacted Leah, the designer behind the gorgeous line of hand stamped jewelry and asked if she would be up for making a OOAK piece for me + my gal Jen. I wanted a vintage feel and a fiddle charm {of course!} for a custom OH Fiddlesticks! piece. Leah was amazing to work with. Not only did she search for the perfect charm, but she surprised me with bracelets to match our necklaces. I gave Jen her own necklace + bracelet set for her birthday last year {she LOVED it!} Each piece is personalized with our first initial, the fiddle charm and a sweet little pearl. I chose green {my fave color}. On our necklaces Leah added a hand stamped Oh Fiddlesticks! charm, too. I wear my pieces all the time, and each time I get tons of compliments. Every gal should have a Mya Bruce Designs piece. I think my current fave is this piece...

And now 10 Things You Didn't Know about Leah owner/designer of Mya Bruce Designs...

1. We don't hunt animals here in Arizona, but we do hunt scorpions! We have to in order to keep them out of the house, as we've done everything else! So I consider myself an expert scorpion hunter around here, with a black light and spray, and my daughter gets her big rain boots on, and a plastic bat and heads out with me and my husband. They glow this crazy bright neon yellow under the light and it's virtually the only way to find them. It looks completely unreal. It's probably very funny to see the 3 of us outside at night :)

2. I don't like matching, and I don't conform to fads. If something is very "in" at the moment, I usually wait it out, because I don't like looking like everyone else :)

I don't know if that's good or bad, but there has always been bits of punky brewster in me.

3. When I was running my own human rights website a while back, I was able to figure out how to start a campaign to get what I called "Letters of Hope" into the people that were in camps in Darfur. I knew these people were facing one of the worst genocides in our history, and all I wanted to do was to let them know we were fighting for them, and praying for them, and to have some hope. I think that without hope, people die - slowly, sadly and angrily. I couldn't have blamed them.

4. I may or may not have uttered the words "crazy stalker fan" and "hunt you down" (as in "I won't") to a famous singer (at the time) that came to my counter when I was a make up artist 10 years ago. :) I never thought I'd be one of those people that loses their normalcy in front of someone famous, but I sure as heck did!

5. I met my husband when I was 13. We were friends for several years before dating, and so we've been together now 14.5 years. I can honestly say that we've never even yelled at each other or put the other one down in all that time. We disagree on lots of things, but we never cross the line of hurting the other person because I think we both know we can never really take that back. I love that about us.

6.I have pencil stuck in 2 places on my body. I can still feel the piece in my toe every now and then, but I can see the one under my eye, and I'm sure that mark will always be there.

7. I spent a year learning the self defense classes of Israeli combat - Krav Maga. It was awesome and I hope to be able to go back once my son gets a little older. It changed everything for me. I used to see myself as weak and fearful, but this gave me confidence and I felt a lot stronger.

8. I write letters to my children every year around their birthday, and then I put it in an envelope and save it in a box that they will get one day when they are older. I want them to be able to actually see and hear what life was like when they were 1, 2, 3, etc... What they were doing, how I felt about them, what our life was like. I hope that is really special for them some day. I also collect quotes and poems and cut out things that are inspirational and put it in an envelope for my daughter, to one day make her a book of inspiring words to live by in life, and what I feel about life for her.

9. I've always been a human compass. My husband is completely the opposite, and had I not been with him in Europe 11 years ago, he would still be stuck there trying to find his way back to the airport.

10. I'm not that much of a perfectionist in life, but with food - every bite should be perfect. All portions should have the correct ratios. My burritos usually look like a demolished mess, because I have to bust them open in order to find the right amount of beans to cheese to rice to salsa to tortilla ratio each and every time :)

Oh, Leah...I just LOVE you even more after reading all that. What a special gal you are. Someday I hope to meet you in person!
